Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda launch East Africa Tourism portal In a struggle to advertise the region as single tourism destination, the three Northern Corridor assimilation project partner states of Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda launched the East African Tourism portal.
The launch of the portal together with the combined tourism promotional video was alleged during the ongoing annual Pearl of Africa Tourism expo in Kampala, Uganda.
Three countries can now jointly market their tourism products online with the launch of the first joint East African destination portal, visiteastafrica.org. Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and Rwanda were among the seven Rwandan companies that are showing at the expo.
The 3 days event was opened by Uganda’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for EAC, Kirunda Kivenjinja, who called on partner states to speed up efforts to market the region as a single tourism destination. “Destination East Africa is a reality. All we need is just to actualize it and Rwanda is dedicated to support the struggle,” said Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Frank Mugambage.
The portal is an online platform that is projected to improve tourism in the three East African countries. The portal will be a shared platform for tourism trade operators to place their multi-country packages promoting Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda; and provide a new channel to reach regional and international audiences.
”It would also allow access to tourism information on products, experiences and destinations – all on a single platform with the aim of enhancing availability of information in the region as well as accessibility to the tourism supply chain. The Pearl of Africa expo is a yearly tourism occasion in the East African region planned by Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and fetches together travel agents, tour operators, hoteliers, destination managers and other service providers towards the tourism value chain. The Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board, Stephen Asiimwe, said the expo offers a exceptional opportunity for the tourism business operators to meet new clients, network, and discuss business.
