Apart from Murchison Falls National Park, Mabamba Wetland is the only place and site where the elusive Shoebill can be spotted at anytime. It is globally recognized and is protected under the Ramsar Convention. This Convention on wetlands signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971, is an intergovernmental treaty which provides the agenda for national action and global cooperation for the protection and wise use of wetlands and their possessions.
