For adventure purposes, Mount Elgon Trekking area in Eastern Uganda is a very beautiful place to visit, with its amazing great Sipi Falls. There is a camp built around a croft-like house originally built as a Governor’s retreat, on a cliff directly overlooking the mesmerizing Sipi Falls and the Karamajong plains.
Full Trip Plan: Mount Elgon Trekking Itinerary – 3 Days, 2 Nights
DAY 1, Mabira Forest & Ssezibwa Falls Nature Walks.
Leave Kampala early morning towards eastern Uganda. Make a brief stop at Ssezibwa Falls in Mukono and Mubira Forest, off Kampala Jinja Highway. Make nature walks to these two places before proceeding to Mbale town. From Mbale, you will head to Sipi falls to check in Sipi falls rest camp, have late lunch in the afternoon, relax at the camp or stroll around up to darkness. Overnight at Sipi falls rest camp or Mt. Elgon National Park Cottages.
DAY 2: Visit Sipi Falls, Trek Mt. Elgon Villages and Coffee Plantains.
Regroup at the lodge in the morning after breakfast and head for a hike to the Mount Elgon Forest Exploration Center for a guided walk around this area. Then make a walk through the local Sabiny people’s villages, visit the coffee plantations and later return for lunch. In the afternoon, you will be guided to the core of the falls at the bottom where the water hits the rocks. Stand still and listen and watch. You can also take pictures. Later on, you head up to the Caves and return to the lodge. Spend the night at Sipi Falls Rest Camp or Mt. Elgon National Park Cottages.
DAY 3: Drive to Jinja or Kampala
Regroup early morning at the lodge, have breakfast, leave Sipi Falls and drive to Jinja, also in the east of Uganda. Here you will get to visit the source of the river Nile. You can also visit the Source of River Nile in Uganda if missed it on the first day of your journey to Mt Elgon. You will have your lunch in Jinja before heading back for Kampala in the evening. Retire at your Hotel/Lodge for overnight.
