A Ngamba Island Tour usually starts from Kampala or Entebbe in the morning. It involves driving to the boat pier to start a boat cruise to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary found in Lake Victoria.
Starting a Tour to Ngamba Island
After a short briefing by the guide, depart from Entebbe Pier on the shores of Lake Victoria and travel by a speed boat to the island. The boat takes about 45 minutes to reach the island and crosses the Equator en-route. When you arrive at the chimpanzee sanctuary, you will get a small briefing and then View the morning feeding of the chimps from the visitors platform area along the end of the facility fence.
The climax of a day tour to Ngamba Island is seeing the chimps interact with each other and with their keepers is extremely fascinating. Also have lunch, is it is a full day trip, swim, watch the neighbouring fishing village, have birding and other wildlife experiences, sunbathe and rest. In the relatively short amount of time you are there you will be able to see such different personalities among the group, with some whistling for food and others clapping.
After enjoying your stay to the sanctuary, return to Entebbe in the afternoon and have lunch first to a hotel of your choice like Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel, Botanical Beach Hotel or UWEC Picnic Lunch, Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Lake View Hotel and many more. After lunch, go to Uganda Wild Life Education Centre to watch a variety of wild animals in their protected sections and this could take you an hour or slightly more. From here, go to Botanical Gardens where you will see a variety of butterflies & a variety of birds and also enjoy the spectacular of Lake Victoria. Drive back to Kampala to your hotel or home, marking the end of your one-day adventure experience.
