Mishaya Gorilla Family is one of the gorilla groups in Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
The group name is derived from Mishaya, a silverback in Bwindi Impenetrable forest who quit Nshongi group with a few females to make his own family unit. He got a few females from other groups in the region to make a total of 12 gorilla members together with three young ones. Mishaya, the only one male adult in the family is said to be a serious fighter who makes connections with other groups in the area.
Mishaya Family Members include Bakunzi and Mwiza, all adult females, Rutaro and Mize, juveniles, Mwiza, Bakunzi plus other infants. Mishaya, the group founder died in 2014 and another male took over leadership of the family.
Like other gorilla groups, Mishaya numbers keep on changing as new members join, others leave, deaths cases plus new births.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the home to almost the number of mountain gorillas in the world. Mishaya as well as other groups in Bwindi forest have been habituated to create ease for gorilla tourism prosper well.
